| General Help Throughout the Airport |
| |
Special assistance, when flying into the UK, can be pre-booked via your airline in advance of travel.
If you are travelling through Southampton Airport do not that you may need to allow additional time to get from the check-in desks, through security and onto your boarding gate. It's worth noting that in larger, international airports boarding gates can be far away from the departure lounge, some taking as long as 30 minutes to reach by foot.
When booking your flight, and requiring special assistance, do check that all help is included within your flight ticket.
Wheelchairs are available at the airport. Many airlines require you to check-in your own wheelchair and use one owned by the airline. Any passenger requiring wheelchair assistance from the check-in desk should advise the airline in advance. Or, for those passengers preferring to stay in their own wheelchair up until boarding should try to arrange this before they fly.
A dedicated disabled lift is available for disabled travellers at Southampton Airport with access to the viewing gallery and also the business conferencing centre.
Disabled travellers at Southampton Airport will find the unisex disabled toilets on the main concourse and also in the departure lounge.
There are reserved seating areas for disabled travellers throughout the airport, both in the main concourse and departure lounge. The disabled facilities at SOU include induction loops, arms on both sides of the seats and space for wheelchairs.
There are also free Help Points throughout the airport for those with either special needs or disabilities including the terminal forecourts, the short stay car parks, railway station and baggage reclaim halls.
The
Help Points display a map signalling your airport location and telephones to request wheelchair provision and general assistance, even someone to help carry your bags.
Help Points are situated in:
- In each bus stop in the long term car park
- The entry/exit barrier in the short term car park
- The airport unofficial information desk
- The Parkway Train station
For the partially sighted traveller or hard of hearing passenger, induction loops are throughout the airport, each displaying the 'sympathetic ear' symbol.
All the airport's directional signs use the bold black text on a yellow background for easy use.
Please note that only guide dogs and hearing dogs are permitted in the airport.
