When flying with children don't be put off or scared. Use this helpful guide on common questions raised by parents such as seat allocation and easy check-in.

Flying With Children ...

When flying with children be as prepared as you can so you can all enjoy an easy and stress-free flight. Here's how, with this easy to use guide:

Plane Seats For Children ...

Once you've booked your flights, when travelling with children, check what your airline's policy is for seating for young children.

Bulkhead seats, found at the front of each cabin section, have facilities for children and are offered to families. Check whether these are pre-bookable or if the airline operates a first come, first serve basis.

Easier Check-In ...

To avoid any delays at check-in, and to avoid getting your holiday off to a bad start, plan to leave for Southampton Airport in good time. Think about the time it will take to get to the airport - then add on at least half an hour in case of any emergencies.

Make sure you know the way to the airport so that you don’t get lost, making sure there's a map in your glove box. Find out if there are any road works or delays that could add time to your journey.

This will mean you arrive at the airport in good time and will be able to check-in quickly and easily - and stress-free!

Flying & Check-in ...

Don't lose any good time you've made as you've left home early, by waiting around for transfer buses. When travelling with children seriously consider booking a meet and greet parking service.

There's no trying to find a remote car park, just drive straight to the Terminal, unload your luggage and your family and go quickly to check in. Your car is picked up from you by the Meet & Greet Rep and returned to you upon your return (even if you are delayed on your return flight - the Rep and your car will be ready and waiting for you).

Ask the check-in staff if the flight is full and if you can be sat by any empty seats so you and your family can stretch and spread out in.

As a family you'll be asked to board the plane first. This allows you extra time to spend with the cabin crew in the event of any questions or queries and will get your children settled.

Buying Baby Essentials Overseas - formula, food etc. ...

Buying Baby Foods Overseas

A lot of parents worry about going away with a baby or young toddler and not being able to buy their usual formula or baby food. The next section provides some essential unofficial information about purchasing your baby essentials whilst away including foods and nappies when you are travelling abroad.

To avoid any panics as soon as you arrive at your holiday destination, pack a supply of baby foods in your suitcases that you can use straight away.
Safe Bottled Water For Babies

It’s not advisable, due to delicate tummies, giving your baby tap water when overseas. Give your baby bottled water for drinking. For making up formula also use bottled water and boil first as you would back in the UK. When buying bottled water it’s very important to check that the water brand you are buying contains less than 30 Na of sodium. If you’re travelling to Spain many of their pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.
Formula Milk

Whilst formula milk is readily available in Europe you will need to go to a pharmacy to purchase it. Similar brands are available but carry a different name, Cow & Gate in Spain for instance is called Almiron. For more unofficial information about buying your particular brand of milk overseas you should call the telephone advice line on the pack of your milk packet.
Buying Jarred Baby Foods

In Europe it's easy to buy pre-prepared baby food. A popular brand is Hero, that you can find across Europe. Likewise Hipp is available. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere remote then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.

Buying Nappies

Buying nappies abroad is very easy. Just try any local supermarket where both main brands such as Huggies and Pampers are readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away.
